I've unplugged the VVT-i solenoid before just to see how the car went. It was night and day. WAY more consistent power and probably a few more up top.
(Unplugging the VVT-i solenoid retards the intake cam to 0° all the time) |

Yes, if you can get it to work.

Great feedback Astroman. I'm heading to a salvage yard this evening to see what new toys I can find :)

im not sure the throttle body actually nets whp or just better throttle repsonse. the throttle plate is about 25% bigger, so essentially when you're at half throttle its letting in the same air as the stock throttle body lets in at about 63% throttle.
the inlet to the intake manifold is pretty tight to the 1.75" stock throttle body. i also have to say that im pretty happy with my resonator-back exhaust at the moment. id worry that without a supercharger or turbo, any bigger than 2" you'd lose a lot of bottom-end power (actually i feel like i lost some grunt with the addition of the dc header last month)

Stock TB is 2", 1ZZ TB is 2.5". NO loss of bottom end, more power is going to the wheels as the motor runs like a raped ape now.
Will deffinetly be getting a dyno done this summer when the custom header-back exhaust is done. ![]() I will take some pics today if I can, video too |

Is the 1zzfe throttle body a direct fit to the stock intake manifold? Any modifications to it? Thanks....

It's a direct fit, I didn't need to modify anything. If the car runs like crap and throws a CEL then you'd need to swap the chip on the TB. I was lucky, it bolted on and worked.

Well if a supercharger is in the future, then I take back my comment about not getting a headerback exhaust. However, I wouldn't get it until after you have the S/C on or sometime soon before you put the S/C on. You wouldn't want to be driving around with 2.25" headerback exhaust and not have the S/C on. You will have no torque AT ALL! hehe

Yes, but it is no fun at all. Trust me. Before I had my blitz wired to be "ON" all the time, I would sometimes drive with the compressor off. That thing had no torque and was somewhat embarrasing to drive. You would have to give it more gas to get it moving and then that would make your muffler louder, yet you weren't moving anywhere. hehe

hope this helps. it was 98* outside when i did this. The blue line is from yesterday. the yellow is from January (88* then)and before i had the res-back.
You would think i would have gained power but seems i have lost quite a bit. not sure whats the cause. Was at least expecting to gain a few from the res-back. Something is off somewhere. I just changed my oil right before i went on the dyno tho so that maybe it but idk. I use to use valvoline synthetic, but switched to mobile 1 full synthetic. And also switch my octane to 87 rather than the 93 i use. Mod List AFE Intake NST Crank Pulley DC Header TRD Axle back Exhaust With mandrel bent to resonator 1ZZ TB I am running a bit lean. There is more power to be had if i got a tune but probably not worth it. Hope this helps paint a picture of what to expect. Any questions hit me up.... |
