I used Herculiner, which is a brush on bed liner and it made a significant difference:

Another tooter just came off the assembly line...

It's also for sale on ebay same as the last one for $495 including free shipping, or direct from me for $450 including free shipping. The do-it-yourself Build Your Own Manifold Kits are also available for $265 including free shipping...

You can either PM me here, email at greggabi@verizon.net , or phone 310-455-3340.

^ They did a whole bunch of things to reduce cabin noise -- intake system, exhaust system, firewall materials, etc.

I get more tire noise than anything else, and think it's a combination of hollow spoked alloy rims and inherently noisier tires (Bridgestone Potenzas). Still I don't have any real complaints because the exhaust makes such beautiful music.

Also got a pleasant suprize... my first registration renewal. It was only $187... and this is for a one year old car. My 17 year old pickup truck is $93.

My 01 Echo was considerably quieter on the intake side.

Is there another driver in you, tooter?

^ Tooter, a great project for tire/road noise is to treat your wheel wells with undercoating. Herculiner is a great product for this (but there are also spraycan products readily available) and you'll get a noticeable result.

On a mildly related note, I've just picked up a Blitz S/C, and I'm already thinking of how I can make it work on a 2ZR-FE swap. The first (and craziest) idea was to have a new manifold section cast from aluminum to mate with the wider bore pitch. Expensive, crazy, probably won't end well. The second thought was (drumroll please) to get an adapter made to mate a 1NZ manifold to a 2ZR head. And then it hit me: someone already did! Of course this assumes that the bolt patterns and bore pitch are identical between the two different 1.8L engines, but I'd say there's a pretty good chance of it being the same.

I ran out of tooter adaptors (and manifolds) and ordered a couple more. This offered the opportunity to slightly tweak the design to remove the 2mm step around the top perimeter so that I don't need to round it off with a Dremel any more...

Conical taper, eh? I'm planning on going to visit my S/C this afternoon so I can take some pics and rubbings. I figured the best way to get scale representation of the surfaces is to do the old graphite-on-paper transfer trick and then add measurements by hand.

Yes, the machined taper is so slight and even you can't see it...

...and naturally everything gets bead blasted.

Oh, oh... looks like tooter has gone off on another adventure...

This one was totally nasty. It took a whole can of engine degreaser just to get it looking like this. I hate working with dirty parts, so at least I can handle the manifold without getting black hands.

...and this one is pure R & D (Research and Development). I haven't yet decided exactly how to go about this because it's something totally outside the box. So I'll let you guys know when my idea actually takes shape.
