malibu,
you are a racer right? get the extender and the short shifter and you get the feel of stock but it is closer to the steering wheel. I did this just because I am used to trucks vs small cars. it is a good feeling. that is just my 2 cents. |

well, i had some more time today and went out to try to put the bracket on again. there were a few times trying to get the retainer clips off that i thought about quitting again, but i finally got it, ended up using pliers on the passenger side clip. after the clips came off, everything else was a breeze. haven't gone driving yet with the new bracket, but i'm heading out this afternoon and i'll see how it feels then :)
thanks for everyone's help with the install. |

use a really big flat head screwdriver, place it inbetween the bent lip at the top of the retaining clip and the top of the cable (which happens to be metal) and turn the screw driver. this should wedge the retainer clip up. readjust the screw driver a few times and it should losten it enough to get it off. it helps if the tip of the screw driver is 1/2 to 3/4" wide. also depending on your screwdriver design, you can put a wrench around the handle and get even more torque in your twisting.
this may not be the BEST way to do it but it worked for me. |

^ That works, and so do channel lock pliers from the top.

just installed today..2 hours of frustration.
I love the new feeling, even shorter shifts than before (full NST ssk kit). Pics show the difference in height the cables sit. Without the bracket, there was damage to the engine bay short shifter. The bearing bit into the side.

Shouldn't there be one on your new MI bracket? I drew one in where it ought to be (in blue above the cable clips)... I notice that you have an '07. Did they not have the bracket for that model year? Or did you skip putting it back in?

Must have just not put it back on. The SSK bracket doesn't come with a new wiring bracket, but it does have a place to screw the old wiring bracket back on.

Crap, that's where the Micro Image decal goes!? Why didn't Garm tell me? Now I have to pull everything back out to put the decal on...
