I think the filter quality might be the limiting factor. An OEM Toyota filter was "designed" to go 7,500 miles between oil changes (because back then Toyota thought 7,500 mile conventional oil changes were ok). Now it's not certain what filter life Toyota has in mind - on older models with 5k intervals, I'm sure they didn't lower the materials or specs on their filters. Then again on newer models with full synthetic specified - with resultant 10k oil change intervals - I doubt they redesigned the filters upwards.

So in short I think between 7.5k and 10k with full synthetic should have been fine.

But why experiment extending the oil change interval when gas is (relatively) expensive and jugs of full synthetic from Walmart are (relatively) cheap.

What's funny is the "leftover" jug oil (or "quart" bottle oil, for that matter never goes to waste. For me, it's hard to store because I only drive about 8k per year. For him, pouring the leftover into one of his jugs will fill it up...before I even get to my next oil change. Amazing.

CTScott has posted re the technical aspect of the effect of temperature on batteries. I imagine the effects in South Florida (where Trini lives) would be similar to SE Texas. My Wal-Mart battery only lasted about 16 months.

I guess it was important that the car start and last a long time because it was for his business so maybe that's why he did it. If Im Walmart Im not replacing a good battery for free though so it must have been bad somehow.

I agree though 5000 miles with constant driving on a synthetic oil change seems like overkill.

I'm assuming that that they replies above using the past tense should be using the present tense. I'm thinking he still has the car. IIRC, a member asked him (soon after he hit 500,000 miles) if he planned to keep the car and he replied yes, and that he had no plans to get rid of it anytime soon. I think his original plan (when he was still driving so many miles) was to try to make it to 1,000,000 miles. If he was still keeping up his early pace, he'd be reasonably close to that right now.

Yep. My 3rd Battery overall/2nd replacement was from Wal-Mart (OEM = 2yrs 11 months and 138k miles, 1st replacement = Sears 1yr Guar. = 3yrs and about 87-88k miles). Just shy of one 1 year I took the car in...thinking the battery would fail and I'd get a new one for free. Unfortunately, the battery passed the test Wal-Mart put it through . I replaced it about 4 months later (only 48-49k miles on it) with the NAPA Legend (the model in CTScott's Yarii) at 274k on the car. What a great battery (for many reasons). Corrosion appeared fairly soon after install on both previous cheap replacement batteries, but not one bit on the NAPA Legend. Overall cost re the Legend = almost the same to the penny as the Wal-Mart and Sears combined (about $130), but well worth it, IMO.

OR....Perhaps (my wild imagination) Trini had a friend there who just marked it as not passing the test ().

So I finally hit 500,000 miles on my Yaris on Sunday 26th May @ 9.24pm. The car still runs perfect. Absolutely no issues with it whatsoever except with my clutch. I change out my original clutch after 400,000 miles and installed an ACT 4 puck ceramic disc with a heavy duty p/plate. After one year of running the car, I starting having shifting issues. Initially I thought the slave cylinder was giving up and after replacing it and still having the same issues, I thought the p/plate gave out, so I went ahead and bought another ACT 4 puck ceramic disc and a heavy duty p/plate.But when I dropped the gearbox, I realized that it wasn't the disc or the p/plate, but the flywheel. It was worn down a lot and the disc wasn't barely grabbing onto it. And because I couldn't afford any downtime, I installed the 2nd new ACT clutch kit with the worn flywheel. The clutch bites but not at fast as it should at high rpms. So I can't shift fast when I'm running out my rpm. I need to replace the flywheel and install a carbon/kevlar disc and heavy duty p/plate. Oh, and my water pump pulley is so badly worn from the the back of the belt running on it, that it actually has a groove in the pulley and is cutting that new belt that I recently installed. So I already have the new pulley to swap out.

Parts that are still working properly:
1. All Sensors (Oxygen, Crank, Cam, Knock, Coolant Temp, Oil Press)
2. A/C Compressor
3. Electric Power Steering

why first clutch job over 400k but second and third only last 30k? is it because aftermarket part?

My take from the TEXT above the lists in the post you quoted.....He set out to do a replacement thinking the flywheel didn't need replacing (he does all of his own work, plus many kits don't include the flywheel, pilot bushing, etc). He then got in there to do the work, and the flywheel did need replacing. He couldn't afford the downtime to wait to order a new flywheel, so he left that as the one major part not replaced. Later, when he'd at least gotten some use out of the parts he put in when the flywheel needed replacing, he replaced the flywheel.....and the other parts again because he wanted them all new at the same time and the parts are pretty inevpensive when ordered online. He stated (after hitting 500k miles), that he has no plans to get rid of his Yaris, so I imagine 'starting fresh' re that area was worth it from his perspective.

^^^^^ 2 months after that, someone posted that he had a light that was burned out. No burnout. He had to remind the person that he installed LEDs. No mileage update with that post . Amazing...some of the imbecilic replies he gets on YouTube....especially from 'moparsrock' .

Just do a YouTube search for '400,000 miles on a Yaris in 3 years 6 months' and his car will be the top ranked hit.
