K. What does that have to do with anything? No one was talking about maintaining slow speeds on a highway. That's a very stupid thing to do.

I also think about some people that will shoot you for cutting them off. I wonder how that type of person will react to me accelerating slowly. So I look behind me to see if there is traffic behind me. Plus I look at the distance between the me and the vehicle ahead. If the distance between me and the vehicle ahead is large, I accelerate faster to close some of the distance. Plus I keep an eye on lights. When I catch up with traffic at the red light, just as the light turns green, then I figure the person behind me has nothing to complain about. Of course if I have a person tailgating, honking the horn, then I will accelerate faster to the legal speed limit. If the driver keeps on tailgating, I ignore the driver behind me.

I say slow in relative terms, as in what the guy (who feels the need to do 50 in a 35) would think.

And at times I do 55 in the slow lane on I-91. That's the minimum safe speed to drive at on the highway (I can go quote my drivers manual too if you want - I keep it in the glovebox.) Also, the posted speed limit is subject to change due to weather conditions as well. In Massachusetts at least, it is possible to get a ticket for doing the posted speed limit if weather were to permit it -- say a light covering of snow on the ground. Something most people would tend to ignore.

I don't drive way below speed limits, but normally am right on whatever the speed limit is. That commonly gets folks right on my bumper (on four lanes) trying to "push" me, then zooming around.

Yeah I drive the speed limit pretty much all the time-but it seems like most others want to do 10-15 over. I accelerate a little slower than most would like too, but certainly not slow to the extreme. I'm used to tailgaiters and they don't bother me much but if someone starts shooting I'll probably speed up.

guys... i got sodium's point in the last page! back to the ecometer! haha.

any recent feedback on the ecometer? more on accuracy talk- tanks vs. "average". if i'm missing something, it seems relatively accurate- accurate to within one or two mpg so far. that's accurate enough for around 70 bucks (for my cheap ass).

I can't think of a place I want to mount mine yet. Behind the steering wheel didn't work for me. I kind of want to screw it to the top left corner of the gauge cluster, or on top of the far left air vent. Has any one else come up with a different mounting location?

why the CAN bus requirement? my car is not listed in the compatible vehicles, nor the entire generation, and i ran into this CAN bus protocol.

in other words, will it work on my 2003 camry, or just the newer cars with the CAN bus OBD port? i'm assuming my car is not CAN bus.

wtf. standard obdII is dying?

edit: fail indeed. doesn't work for my old ass obdII camry. haha. nice talk anyways.

It seems that the only compatible vehicles are those with OBDII with electric throttle.

The reason being that my 2005 Honda w/ cable throttle is NOT compatible with ecometer, but the 2006 w/ electric throttle is. (No changes in body or any other mechanicals between '05 & '06.)

I put mine just above the speedometer, slightly turned towards me. I might turn it even more at an angle towards me to keep the people that drive with me from staring at it. Everyone thinks it is cool and wants to get one.

^honda also switched most of their vehicles mid-2005 (for MY 2006) to CAN-bus protocol from standard OBDII protocol, due to the nationwide requirement in 2008 for all vehicles sold in U.S. to be can-bus.

i think your case is similar to mine. it's less related to whether the car is DBW or not. DBW just happened to come at the same time.

I had a VA appointment in Cleveland today. Normally about a hour drive. I decided to try combining using my new ecometer with the new option of fuel economy driving directions. The nuvi picked most direct route with minor changes. Using the new combo added a extra 1/2 hour to get to the VA. It seemed that the nuvi expected me to be using a device like the ecometer. My projected arrival time was just 2 minutes off. I got beeped several time as people drove around me. Maybe I should get a hypermiler bumper sticker.
