Need advice: Buying a used Yaris

Hello ,

Since I have a job I am looking for a car. I would to buy an used Toyota Yaris. Which model has the slightest problems, is the most reliable and economical? I will have to drive daily around 70 kilometers. Hopefully you can give me some advice.

Greetings, Juliette

Pay to have the dealer inspect it prior to purchase.

I don't know which models of the Yaris are available in the Netherlands. In the US, we only get the 1.5L (with manual shift or 4 speed auto), which has proven to be extremely reliable and economical.

carcomplaint.com avoid the 2007/2008 model, they have clearcoat peeling issues, google "yaris clear coat peeling"

^^^ Yes, I don't have scratch or even a door ding on my 2007... and it has always been garaged. My car looks like new, but the clearcoat is peeling and Toyota will hear nothing of it.

All models of Yaris are good reliable cars. Any one will do.

I also suggest picking out a Yaris that looks good to you and taking it to a mechanic for him to inspect.

Good luck and tell us what happens!

My '08 has been sitting outside for 7 years, 160k miles, paint still looks like-new. Although I have heard of others with clear coat peel, never seen it in-person yet.

Is the Netherlands a country that taxes vehicles differently depending on engine size and fuel type? Are both petrol and diesel readily available in your area? If possibly test drive several Yari with different engine sizes. They should all be good choices but certain models might be a better value long-term depending on your countries taxing structure.

Wow. Does the color make a difference re the clearcoat? My '07 has always been garaged as well and has never had an issue re the clearcoat.

Preferably, IMO, a 'private' mechanic (not at a Toyota dealer).

BTW, there is a small issue re 2007 models....a faulty voltage regulator inside the alternator....only becomes an issue for some owners...I was one (at 159,000 miles). I bought a rebuilt Yaris alternator which now has 141,000 + miles on it.

I'm unsure which rear seat configurations have been available in Europe but, if available, I'd look for one that has the split 60/40 rear seat. My 2007 has the bench rear seat, and I wish it had the split rear seat.

I've seen a lot of clearcoat peeling in Texas, but I don't think ever on a Yaris.
