Best tape for spoiler?
I'm trying to figure out the best way to re-attach/re-tape my OEM-like spoiler on my 3rd gen hatch. I previously used gorilla brand but it doesn't seem to last very well (tape is still very firmly attached to the spoiler itself, but not sticking to the car side anymore). Prior to attaching, I did wash throughly and wipe down with alcohol but it just doesn't seem to want to stay sticking on the car side.
So just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on which tape would be best/strongest. I'm thinking the 3M stuff, would this be good? https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...K6Y9EEQB&psc=1 Or this? Seems less strong though, https://www.amazon.ca/3M-03615-Scotc...649551&sr=8-26 I've read some people say that it would be a good idea to use an adhesion promoter, but others say it's not necessary and could damage the paint. Any opinions on if this step is necessary? https://www.amazon.ca/3M-Adhesion-Pr...6645364&sr=8-5 There isn't really a place to drill, nor do I want to drill holes into the car. So hoping of finding a strong/suitable tape solution. TIA! |

Attached mine with 3M 13 or so years ago. Still 100% adhesion. No promoter used.

3M VHB
https://www.amazon.com/3M-Tape-4646-...14952760&psc=1 Be careful, make sure you have everything lined up the way you want, otherwise you'd have a hard time taking it off, or might even cause damage. |

I'd be superhuman if I remembered that. All I can tell you is I got it at Canadian Tire.

Toyota drilled holes into the hatch and used anchors along with 3M tape.
Its not as daunting as it sounds. Did you buy your spoiler new from a dealer/supplier? Or is it a used one from a junkyard?

Oh, interesting. I'm still very wary of putting a drill to my car lol I'm not that good with tools. But I got the spoiler from someone here a while back, and I can't quite remember if it's a genuine OEM. I don't see any holes for mounting though. |

I think this is what I used. IIRC, it was twice as wide as I wanted, so using a fresh box cutter blade, I sliced it in half. Applied around the entire edge of the spoiler mounting surface it provides phenomenal holder power. You do not need to mess with screws.

Last time I stuck it on (using gorilla), the tape was wide enough so one strip across nearly covered the entire width. This time though, I think I'll apply around the edge like you said. Thanks for the link, and mines is definitely not as big as some of the other posters, I weighed the spoiler at about 2 lbs only so pretty light |

That 3M tape will be plenty.
I bought mine straight from the dealer with the mounting stuff and templates included, so I just installed mine like they do from the factory. Easy peasy.
