New to me '09 Yaris
Hello all you Yaris faithful: I just picked up a great deal on an '09 Yaris 3 dr, and the one single knock on it was that it only came with snow tires. The original tires were worn quite thin. Pre-purchase inspection showed it was mechanically solid. 5 speed manual. I want to upgrade from the steelies to a different wheel.
In perusing the Official Yaris Wheel & Tire Guide, my eyes happened upon the optional tire sizes. Two sizes that did catch my attention were the 175/65-15 and the 195/50-16. 1. My bigger question is what size wheel will match the above tires. I noticed a few owners who posted pics of their setup, and I liked the 15 X 5.5 Mini Cooper wheels, along with the 15 X 6 Honda Civic Si ones. 2. I'm up here in Seattle and found a set of barely used tires for sale: they're an unconventional 185/55-15 for $160. So for those of you that have a better grasp than I do of these things, pray tell, what options do I have for wheels? My budget is $500 all in. |

Welcome to the forum.
I suggest you check this stickyed thread out: https://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5021 And if you're still not satisfied use this wheel/tire calculator, but you'd have to take initial measurements to make it accurate, ie. how far your current wheel/tire is from the fender, etc. https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/ |

I run 15 x 7" wheels (Enkei RPF1) with 205/50R15 tires (Vredestein Quatrac 5). This tire/wheel setup is nearly identical to the OEM 14 inch tires, which allows the speedometer to remain true, and it provides more grip. Due to the Yaris's low HP, I recommend getting the lightest wheels you can afford (<15lbs). The heavier the wheel, the slower your car will feel during acceleration. I would also recommend a wheel/tire setup that leaves some extra sidewall on the tire for comfort. The slimmer the tire, the rougher the ride.
The cheapest new wheel that I could find with the above considerations is the Konig Backbone ($118/wheel):https://www.discounttire.com/buy-whe...ckbone/p/51687 I would recommend getting the Vredestein Quatrac 5 tires (all season tires with snow rating): https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes Alternatively, if you want to use a summer tire, then I highly recommend Continental Extreme Contact Sport: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...omCompare1=yes Also don't forget to install hub centric rings! Good luck! |

Wheel selection
Manny & Neinris - thank you both for your timely suggestions. After some more thought, I've decided to go with the Mini Cooper R100 5-Star Spoolers.
The numbers match up very well to the Yaris, and if my research is correct, I'll only need some hub centric rings to use them, 56.1 to 54.1 I believe. The other specs for these wheels per my search are as follows: - 13.7 lbs per wheel - 5.5 X 15 - Offset: 48 mm - Wheel bore: 56.1 mm For those who have a bit more knowledge than me, am I missing anything? |
