Fog Light Heat

I've driven a few days for long durations (7 hr+) with my fog lights on and notice that they get pretty hot. I have a sheet of laminX film over each fog and there is a burn mark on each side on the center.
Has anybody else notice this? If I went 35 watt hid would it lower the heat?
I like having the film over the fog(protection and style) but having them with brown burn marks is not cool.
