Saw this on the Honda fit forum, and found it interesting.

I was always sure that weight affected fuel economy. Anyone with a set of SSRs can chime in if they got better gas mileage?

Less rotational mass = more energy from the engine pushing you forward instead of getting the wheels turning = better gas mileage.

You will get better mileage and/or better acceleration with type Cs, guaranteed(provided all other parts are the same)

I think they are also trying to stress the fact they have low emission factories and recycle their parts. Props to them. They make good stuff and its good to see they are responsible about it.

And I don't know if trying to prevent the destruction of mankind is necessarily "bandwagon jumping"

SUper light wheels kinda scare me. They're a bit more prone to being bent.

I'd be more worried about an 11 or 12 pound cast rim than a 9 pound forged rim

i wondered when they would go this route! i checked the website and it's just the same wheels they already have(type c's, type f's) on hybrid vehicles. i believe volk has already explored this with the ce28n's? you gotta be a pretty serious hypermiler to spend that cash for better mpgs, but to each their own! apparently, the process of manufacturing them is very eco-friendly so that's a plus too.

i have type Cs in 16". only weigh 10-11lbs? But the tire i have on it made it weigh more than my stock steelies with their stock tires. so i couldn't see that helping my mpg?

eco-friendly = $$$... no way around it.

also...R&D = $$$ ... no way around that either.

with the cost of those 9lb rims you could easily make 200k miles making up the cost of 1mpg you 'might' get outta them. so i'll stick to rotas or eagles or any other cheapo rim that looks good and will break just as easily...i can dodge a damn pothole or bump in the road cuz i'm always payin attention...unless i'm comin home from the club n the GF is feelin frisky n wants to put her head in my lap for the 30 min drive home.

Environmentally friendly = more $$$ on proper tooling, and a bill that not many people want to foot.

It's only going to be a matter of time when these inefficient factories that produce crap will be clamped down on.

Obviously global warming is a GLOBAL issue. And it's proved that the factories put out the most pollution.

If SSR and Rays engineering took the steps to reduce pollution, in the end, it's damn good marketing and a great way to move forward. Look at the Toyota Prius. There are similar much cheaper gasoline cars that can kinda get close to the mileage, but look at the Prius sales figures when the economy didn't tank.

When you think of Hybrid, most people think of the Prius. And, when if the marketing is done right (which i think it is), eventually when most people think of wheels for their Prius, they might think of SSR.

Rays Engineering ECO drive GEAR!!

not sure who SSR is attacking with their talk of Other wheel brands harming the environment.
