What Stereo for audio prep. package?

Getting a base 2010 yaris with the audio prep., I don't want to overpower the speakers. Looked at best buy yesterday. Found out about the 2 din and 1 din mounts and the plug for the wires. Just need to pick head unit. What do you have in yours and are you happy with it?

While your waiting for a bunch of new input, check out this thread which got built up over time. Pretty much what you are asking for, but without the wait.

I got a basic pioneer with mp3 and wired it in with kit included with instructions from crutchfield.com and it was MUCH easier than trying to find an adapter and what not locally... which i have done before....

Got a Pioneer Carrozzeria P-01 from Japan. Still have to mod the factory integrated dash opening to mount the source unit.

I'm doing the wiring; there will be only soldered connections with colored heat shrink to match or come close to the wires. There will be no crimping or connectors, essentially it will be hardwired in.

Pictures of the unit are available, but the mounting will happen in April when I'm back home from this deployment.

Holy shit on a stick. You were deployed when I was deployed. And that was a while ago. How long was your tour for?

You say "were deployed". I'm typing this from VBC. I'm out in April. That can come fast enough. R&R is here in 29 days and I've got a LOT of prep to do on the Yaris. I've still got to lay down some more Roadkill, I've got to mess with amplifier mock ups for the amp rack, I've got to make test enclosures so I can place the Legatias properly...OH! And I get to make some RCAs juuuusst to see how mine stack up against the expensive ones you buy in the shop. Something tells me that I'll be using my own handmade patch cables.

What branch and unit were you with?

Goku...

That's along with installing a system into my wife's Tacoma and visiting family, friends, and two of my friends that were killed...

...EFP IED's are a bitch...

I'm with the 41st IBCT from Oregon. I'm out at ECP 13 on VBC.

Sqcomp.... I'd imagine as long as you go with a heavier guage signal wire in the RCA that it would be better than the expensive ones you buy.... I have very little faith in the "shielding" of rca cables... if you want a shielding you go with balanced cables... (denonford has them, and I plan to use them too... just got to buy the cables or make my own when the time comes to install the deck).

@ sq

yeah, we killed all the dumb ones. most of the mortor attacks we got were pretty ingeniously set up.

that s*** just pisses me off.

@talnlnky

What if you took a two-conductor twisted pair 12awg and wrapped it in foil then stuck an RCA connector on the end and soldered the foil to ring? Top quality stuff right?

well... it'd sure be more durable... 12awg is a bit overkill I think.... I mean, RCA's are both low voltage & low amperage.... It'd be much better than most RCA's... but still light years behind balanced cables, or better yet... optical cables.

... MEH ...

Properly set up, I'll still have no audible notise even at the highest levels. My issue is not whether I want to use optical, it's the money spending for the amps that take optical ins.

I'm loathe to go outside my choice right now for amplifiers because of the factory support...which is only several miles away from my house. They've (the Exile owners) even offered to modify the amplfiiers to fit my needs. Local support is HUGE with me. I must support those who support my efforts. Brian, Bill, and Morgan at Exile are nothing but good guys.

Besides, two 125 x 4 amplifiers for my three way set sounds good right about now. Headroom baby! WOOT!

...Did I just hijack this thread?
