2 sets of components?
i ordered a set of polk db6501's.i was planning on ordering another.i wanted to install 2 in front and 2 in rear.i like to be surrounded by the sound.i want everyone in the car to hear good quality sound, not just me.i thought i'd mount the tweeters in the rear on the c-pillar somewhere above the seatbelts and the front tweeters on the dash.is this a bad idea?i'll be running a 4 channel amp(60 rmsx4 to the polks) and 1 12" sub(900rms and yep,I'll be getting a bigger alt).

If you have efficient amps you won't need a bigger alternater. I would recommend mounting the front tweeters towards the front of the doorpanel just to make installation easier plus it is generally a good location. In the rears your best bet is to mount the tweets just below ear level in front of where the rear passengers will be sitting.

I would rather say, if you don't ask the amplifiers to push too much, you won't need an alternator upgrade.
In my case I'm upgrading to a 220 Ampere alternator to help push three amplifiers. I'll never need to push the amplfiiers as hard as they can be driven...I'm doing it for the show and the backup if I ever do need it.

Okay, you know what the next step is then. Take a look at Iraggi Alternators, Powerbastards.com, and perhaps Ohio Generators.

Is dimming only an issue at idle rpm or with volume turned way up? I'm planning on getting the Alpine PDX-5 600W rms, but if that will require a new alternator.... I'll rather do without.

I was running a 150 watt amp and experienced some dimming issues. Not too much, but every so often the lights would dim noticeably.

a lot of diming issues are fixed by using proper size power and ground wires......4 gauge does well for up to 600w after that 0 gauge is pretty much a must.running over 1000w in my tC and never a dimming on anything ever with 0 gauge.
