Aux Port

Hello all,

I have the first generation ipod nano and I use it in my Yaris. There is a noticeable difference in power of my car when I am using my ipod versus when I am not. Does the AUX port use a lot of power? I wonder if it is my older ipod. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Thankyou.

i have a generic mp3 player plugged in 24/7/365 and have noticed no changes except the mp3 player's battery drains quick because of max volume setting

I've never noticed any difference when using aux vs. not using aux. I've used 1st gen ipod touch, 2nd gen ipod touch, iphone 3g, iphone 3gs, 1st gen ipod w/ clickwheel, and 1st gen ipod video (not all mine, but with various people and their music selection)

no, the aux port takes no extra power, AFAIK, the device powers the line to the head unit. spinning a cd and moving the lens assembly would take more power than the aux, I would think

The AUX uses no power. The AC unit uses a million times more power than the AUX. Even then, I don't notice any less power with the AC on.

You're playing the wrong music. Try "409," "Little Deuce Coupe," or "Little GTO." Maybe "Hot Rod Lincoln."

My car has a big loss of power when running the CD or Radio. I think some have bad EMI/RFI rejection and its definitely messing up the ECM. Takes 2 days for my car to recover after running a CD so I suspect bad coefficeints are being installed in the MAP. I would like to wire in a EMI filter but w/o a scope and a PhD in digital electronics to track this down I dont think it can be done.

Finally! Someone knows what I am talking about. :) My car does the same thing. I have no idea what to do about it. The dealership says they do not experience it so they cannot fix it.

Not really unbeleivable - cars are using solid state voltage regulation and rectification and these devices are known to be "noisier' than the old analogue counterparts. Many implementations can cause a HF pulse train that "pollutes" the DC and data buss which will confuse the ECU and cause poor operation. Then you can have outside EMI/RFI injection from digtal sources like mobile Phones, Ipods, CD, GPS, ignition system. It almost impossble to design the ecu to be immune to all this digital noise "pollution".

Is there anything that can be done to prevent this?
