Cam Shaft Sensor - Loud Chirping and driving it...

I have had a bad cam shaft sensor but being lazy and poor have been driving it with the error code for about six months, and this week it has been giving a very loud chirping or squealing noise when the car is turned on, and lasts until it's put in drive and starts moving.

I am going to get it fixed on Wednesday, when I get my first paycheck in forever, but need to know if it is safe to drive it like this until then or if I have to get my ass on a bus.

It's a 2007 4-Cyl hatchback.

Thanks!
