Overhead Console?
Does anyone in the USA make an overhead console that might fit in the Yaris?
How about one from another Toyota? Perhaps one that would lower the map lights and dome light, but still have room for some hidden compartments? Not sure how low I would want it to hang, but still want headroom and maybe not noticeable from the outside? Something low profile? What would I mount it to? Something that would color match the interior somewhat? I'm thinking along the lines of these, but cheaper and local: http://www.consoles.com.au/accessories_roof.htm |

Thought about a xB or xD overhead console myself. However, after viewing the install instructions, it seems more of a hassle than it'd be worth.

Hmm. I didn't think about cutting the headliner. Being that I haven't taken down
the map lights or dome light, I don't know what is up there to mount a console to. Thanks for mentioning the Scion ones. Guess I had forgot about them. Someone at work suggested I go to a custom upholstery shop and see what they would charge. My first thought was something I could find at a salvage yard that might fit. |

Well, I am thinking about installing a remote head for an amateur radio. Those pics above
don't hide the head, but perhaps I could adapt something. When in the car this morning, I looked around and am having second thoughts about the whole thing. There isn't too much headroom as it is. There was a guy in Europe that removed the maplights on his 2007 Yaris and put the radio head up there. I'm not sure I actually want it up that high either. Guess I have some more thinking to do on placement of the radio head. One of my thoughts is to mount it in the driver's side glovebox behind the steering wheel. That way, when not in use, it would be out of site. Here is his install: |

A few months ago I saw a factory overhead console for the Vitz on eBay. It's not on there anymore, which sucks, because I've wanted one of these before I bought my Yaris... If anyone sees one of these again, let us all know!
