Color Question

I was looking at my black 3-door and noticed that the only color on the car is the red in the taillights. So I started thinking that a little red elsewhere might be interesting and begin to get away from unrelieved black.

Two thoughts:
  1. Put red lenses over the fog lights. Is this legal in Virginia? Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to recall that only police and emergency vehicles can use red lights in the front. My 1950 Austin has yellow fogs, but then so does every other car. Red would light up the night! Does anyone know if I can do this?
  2. The old Toyota logo seems to have come only in red. I'd love to get one to put in the front of the car where the new logo is. Does anyone know if the old logo comes in an oval form that will fit the front of a Yaris?

    Thanks,

I'd go the badge route, just to play it safe. As far as the old badge, this was all I could find in the 10 minute search...and it doesn't look like it'd work with the new shape.

However, I did find these as well that you could consider:

Lastly, check out jpmck03's thread on badge re-painting over on MI, he has some REALLY good information, and did a fantastic job with his re-painted Netz emblem:

Also, you could consider having one custom fabricated for you. I've been trying to track down a vector to do some experimenting myself.

Yeah, it looks as if the oval is a different size and shape from the current one. And frankly I don't like the bright work - what I don't need is all that steel or chrome. So maybe I'll try cutting an aluminum plate into an oval, painting it all red and then putting a black circle with the logo in the center. But it sure would be easier if I could find an original Toyota one, shave it to the right size and paint it the colors I want.

I found a couple on ebay.co.uk: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nk...a+dragon+badge Keep in mind, however, that these are actually old Celica badges, so depending on what sort of car scene is around you, you make get some flak if you run these.

Once I get my badges made up, I'll post them and gauge any interest if anyone else wants a custom badge done.

<<depending on what sort of car scene is around you, you make get some flak if you run these.>>

I thought I was in a totally indifferent "car scene" until the other day, when I got out of the Yaris and a guy getting out of a black, late-model Jaguar looked at me and said, "Wow! That's the new paradigm, isn't it?". So maybe there's a tolerance for over-goosed base rockets in the DC area.

I'd say swap the mirror covers for red ones

Yes, I can see why you would suggest that, and on the whole it is a good suggestion. But my exterior decoration is black CF on black, so I think that reddening a large area like the mirror covers would be too much.

I wonder whether I could just paint my foglight surrounds red so as not to offend the local constabulary. That might be more subtle.

I am in the same boat as you. I like red touches to the black.

Here is my set up. I also have red NST crank and alternator pulley under the hood. Red rear tow hook looks good too, looking for a front red tow hook also.

Yeah, Derrick - I really like the red tow-hook and rims, but I'm anti-logos, unless they're my own. My new paradigm is to ID the car with my own logo and use minimal color touches, like the tow-hook.
