Plasti Dip Emblems (Pics)

So i've been reading up on plasti dip and i figured i would try blacking out my badges. It is incredibly easy to use. Even though it is December, i had some issues with temperature, and not getting an even spray pattern. Overall i think they turned out just fine.

I started by removing the front emblem, just for ease of coverage while spraying. The first time i attempted to spray the front with the emblem still attached, the plastidip linked between the paint and the emblem and i could not get a clean separation between the two, so i had to start over.

I used a basic degreaser on the rear emblems before i started painting. Next i used painters tape and newspaper to tape up the back. Finally i started spraying away. I did a total of 6 coats, all very light. Then i removed the paper and the tape and slowly peeled away the excess material.

Ive seem another member here has done the mirrors of the car, and i think that will be my next project for the yaris. Once the summer rolls around, im hoping to do some dipping on my Evo!

Enjoy!

All you need to do is get an edge lifted off the paint. You can do it with your finger if its an easily accessible part of the car. If you look at the third to last picture, you can see an edge that has been lifted up. Then you just peel it away, and the gap between the badge and the paint will make a clean tear.

Also if you want to remove the areas within the badges or the holes in the lettering, all you need is a toothpick or a narrow object (preferably something that wont scratch the paint) and then pick at it until it comes off in one piece.

Emblems are super easy to remove just slide a credit card behind them and pry. On the trunk make sure you're pushing out the clips from inside the trunk.

I did the back chrome trim and also did the back emblem now ita just the front one thats left over to do. I wanna pop it out so its easier then spraying it on the front bumper. The only thing is that is that I got a 11' and its grill area is a no access type.

Hanzo that came out great!

Ice, I just took an old CC and slid a corner of it behind a corner of the emble. I just really Jimmy'd and wiggled the card back and forth while applying force in each direction and it should eventually pop off.

That is on a sedan.

Yep, thats a Sedan. I did the front too and forgot to take a photo of it. I never even took it off just taped around the front grill. I'm stoked cause soon enough I'm gonna have some money stashed away to buy some rims/coilovers soon. Gonna post up the photos of the front when I get it clean up real good!

I found that carefully using a pin tool or the end of a mechanical pencil is an excellent way for taking off the excess rubber.

The excess light spray that ends up around the emblems is easily taken off by rubbing your finger along it.

I decided to plastidip my front emblem, but while removing it, the plastic inserts that hold the front bumper broke from just pushing in the middle. Can I pick up new inserts at home depot or can I only get them at the stealership?

Check the Dipyourcar.com vids on Youtube for their new Pearl effect, also the metallizers. Cool stuff.
