goodyear eagle LS tire crack on side walls

I got my Toyota yaris july 2011, in less than 2 yrs with 13,400 miles, I noticed my tires (all 4) which are goodyear eagle ls (OEM / date code 610) have cracks on all tires. I just wonder if some of you have same experiences, or can give opinions. I tried to check the warranty from Toyota dealer in CT, but told me to check it with goodyear dealers. any idea?

That is definitely bad. The tread area is beginning to separate from the sidewall. Goodyear only has a 12 month defect warranty, but I would go ahead and still contact them:

Yes , I've seen this with the EAGLE . Tires had less than 25,000 miles . Do as CT states . Good luck and let us know the results .

I just found that my stock OEM tires do not have any sort of warranty.
I have Bridgestone Turanza EL400's.
So I'm going to be replacing them really soon just in case.
I'd hate to end up in a new car with damage from a low end tire.

IMO and this is only MO, the Eagle LS tires are garbage. They are so bad IMO that I took them off my Yaris at about 2k miles and got a set of (relatively inexpensive) Yokohama TRZ tires which although are not the best, are much better than the LS IMO, including in snow.

If you got 13,400 miles out of them, consider yourself lucky..... now get better tires and cut your losses.

Thanks for the pics. I couldn't remember which brand I had as my OEM set of 4. With your clear pics as a reference, I know I had these Goodyear Eagles (and now I won't have to look back in my records to determine which I had). My experience was different than it sounds as though it was or is for many others. I got 71,480 miles out of that set of 4.

I never had any cracking issues with mine in the year I ran them. However, they had no grip anywhere, dry or wet. They are, by far, the worst tires I've ever ran.

Besides the quality issue, tread separation can also be caused by running underinflated. Don't continue driving on those tires. Get some decent ones.

You are a good driver, nook.

That's a truly admirable quality... making things last.

I recently have that issue also ..currently at 30k miles. I probably had noticed those cracks 5k miles earlier but do not worry until now since I am planning to drive to Canada. Now I feel I am lucky after reading you guys comment.

Buy tires before coming to Canada.
If you get caught out here you'll pay twice the price for tires.
They're a precious commodity here.

I'm amazed I didn't notice this days ago when this thread last had the newest post.

I had great luck with them, but lots of others didn't and this word in the thread title could sum up the frustration some felt. Got to be the thread title word of the year so far.

^^^^^ Great point. I also thought a somewhat related point that CTScott made while answering someone else's question on another thread is extremely interesting. Namely, that the Yaris can handle a greater degree of tire overinflation than some other cars because of its light weight.

I disagree. I put about 40k miles on mine with great results. The last 2 years I ran them I used them as siped winter tires and they performed well up until they didn't have decent tread left. I always kept them at the proper air pressure. Even the 2nd Yaris the ex ended up with did very well with them and hers was two years newer.

But yes, the ones in the picture are unsafe. Replace.

I'd never heard that term before. I had to look it up. One learns something new every day .

I kept mine at about 38 (a bit over proper IIRC) and stretched them a bit over the rated mileage limit. Now that I think about it, I think one person on that 'How long did your OEM tires last' thread got 90k. I can't remember if that person had the these Goodyear Eagles we had or the other OEM set that other people had.

Definitely. Sometimes an OP takes a pic and it is blurry or the OP doesn't capture what he or she is trying to illustrate re holding the camera at the wrong angle, or for some other reason. Not the case here. Great pic for the intended purpose .

Just noticed Goodtear = likely a typo. I still think it would be a humorous reference though, if one had a bad experience with the tire.

OEM tires do have a warranty, same as buying a new set.
The Bridgestone warranty book is in you packet.
