Wheel banding?

Has anyone ever tried this? Coz i have a set of stock steelies in the garage.. And maybe do something about it, like band it to get that deep dish look.. Any thoughts on this one? My friend told me its not safe to do it.. Im just looking for some others opinion. Thanks

Not safe for novice welders.
But if done correctly (professionally), it does look nice.
Here are a couple from Daddie_Y and Pur_Blu
