Toyota to recall 6.5 million cars to fix power window switch
TOKYO (Reuters) - Toyota Motor Corp <7203.T> said on Wednesday it would recall 6.5 million vehicles globally to fix a defect in the power window switch in models including the Yaris/Vitz subcompact, Corolla, Camry and others. Of the total, about 2.7 million are in North America, 1.2 million in Europe, and 600,000 in Japan, the automaker said. It said it was not aware of any crashes caused by the glitch. Toyota said modules in the power window master switch may have been lubricated inconsistently during the manufacturing process. Debris caused by wear from the electrical contact points can accumulate and cause a short circuit. That in turn could cause the switch assembly to overheat and melt, and potentially lead to a fire, it said. Among other models subject to the recall are the Matrix, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra, Sequoia and Scion xB. The vehicles were produced between January 2005 and December 2010, Toyota said. Toyota also issued a separate recall in Japan of about 140,000 Crown and Crown Majesta models for a glitch that could cause the hood to open inadvertently. for my manual cranks!

It's OK, I've got crank windows. Wasn't there another recall on the same subject?

I wish my Yaris had come with crank windows, considering how unnecessary they are, and costly to repair when they inevitably break. They were the bane of my 2000 Honda Accord's existence.

This is a repeat? I had recall-work done in 2013 to "inspect the PWMS assembly and apply a specialized grease."

This is a new widespread recall issued today. Affected vehicles must have been expanded.

YAY for my '10 hatch, 'egg 2.0', with crank windows! :) But I do wish the rear quarter windows opened like my old Festiva.

Manual windows and locks. In a car that I can easily reach over to lock or roll down the window, there's really no reason to have "power" anything!

Well, power locks because I'm married, and power mirrors because I like to adjust my mirrors properly, depending on the situation ;)

My first car was a 91 Ford Festiva L. Bought it in 92 from an Air Force guy that was moving. What a wonderful car. Mazda made of course and put together by Kia. Then shipped to the US. So durable, and still see them on the road today. And I also loved that rear window opening. Forgot to shut it a few times and it rained in. What a great car and great memories.

This is an old post. However, I have a 2010 Yaris Sedan.
Took the Yaris in for the recall. The dealer pulled the Master Power Switch and re-lubed it. A week later, when I pressed the Lock on the Master Power Window controller, the driverside lock did not lock. I went to the dealer and they said that's not caused by the Master Power Window Controller switch. I beg to defer. It's all one piece. Of course I told them I'm not coming back and will not buy a new car from them. In a nice way of course. Any one know what kind of grease they use for the Master Power Window Controller Switch? Thanks in advance, Paul |

FYI, found an article that said they use Heat-resistant grease. Autozone says they sell Dielectric. Everyone says don't use that. I have High Temp general purpose grease at home. I'll wait until I get back home.
