Why not a Prius C instead of a Yaris?

Would you have considered a Toyota subcompact hybrid purchase if it was a nice little Yaris Hybrid being offered, instead of a Prius C?

I seriously would have, because I really like the look of the 2015/2016 Yaris - and really don't like the overall look of the Prius C (or the other trim versions for that matter).

I wish the American Toyota market was as varied/interesting as the European, Asian, and other markets.

Like the Yaris hybrid currently offered internationally?

With the SE's good looks and 55mpg city?

with ....

a backup camera
satellite radio
push button start
better climate controls
etc

Yes

With discounts and rebates, the basic Prius C has been less expensive than a Yaris here in southern California. But, I think it's a rather homely looking car. Plus, it comes with a rear bench seat in basic trim... which rules it out as a functional vehicle for me.

If we had the Yaris hybrid here, I would definitely consider it. I like the hybrid's front grille work so much better.

And I read that Toyota is thinking of killing the C and definitely looking at killing the Prius wagon.

because PriusCs here are about PhP1.6M (~US$36,000) for the basic and Yarises are literally half of that at PhP0.86M for the Full Option (~US$19,000).

government here...laws on tax breaks...politicians' pocket money...

This.

Plus, I also think the Prius c is homely. Granted, the frontal refresh is better, but still homely.

When I reviewed one a few years ago, I wasn't impressed. It got great mileage, but wasn't much fun to drive.

I came really close to getting an automatic (would have been a first) on my 2015 SE, but the local dealers annoyed me just enough with their attitudes to encourage me to take the plunge and go long-distance for a manual/stick SE. I'm happy that I did.

I would definitely consider an automatic on the Hybrid Yaris, however, if the hybrid version was offered in the USA (and looked similar to the European/Asian version).

I can't say that I really like the new 2016 Prius design though, but it isn't any worse than the previous ones. Just not my taste. The bank robbery commercials that they did with it recently was sort of cheeky.
