2008 Toyota Yaris airbag light ON

(tried posting this yesterday but it never showed up for some reason)

2008 Toyota Yaris, 144K, shared by several family members. Recently after changing a headlamp bulb and resetting the "MAINT REQ'D" light (mechanic forgot to reset it after last oil change), now the airbag light comes on about 5 seconds after starting the car, and stays on.



Research has shown me that this could be a glitch in the airbag module located in the steering column. Something about a recall, I don't know. But since this never happened before on this vehicle, with 144K miles now, I'm not positive. For the safety of my other family members, I want to fix it - any ideas?
