nst underdrive pulleys lower gas mileage?

i already know they increase throttle response, and make decent power... but does it do those things at the cost of lowering gas mileage?

also, i noticed that nst is no longer a sponsored vendor here at yarisworld, and the pulleys are no longer in stock on microimageonline.com... have they been discontinued? does micro image carry a replacement product that performs just as well, if not better?

Increased performance = increased desire to drive hard = lower mileage. I'm sure if you drove with the same habits you would see a negligible difference.

NST doesn't make yaris stuff anymore. To my knowledge, they had poor customer service. In the meantime, micro image did their own crank pulley (sells for like $140 on the site). The microimage crank pulley is slightly lighter than the NST, and it's meatier in the center by the bolt (for increased durability).

You'll also see that nst made water pump and alternator pulleys. They do offer weight reduction as well. But because of their cost, and less documented benefit, they're often left out of the discussion.

Our new pulley is OEM size, but lighter than NST's underdrive pulley was. Best of both worlds.

I have had the NST Underdrive pulley installed since 08. If I drive with FE in mind and not for power band then I get better FE than I did with the stock pulley by 1/2mpg. I would think it would be the same with the MI pulley. As previously stated anytime that you put on a part to give you a power increase you have to be disciplined enough to not drive it harder if you wish to get the best FE possible.

NP...it is nice because it makes the engine rev more freely when you need it. Not gonna say that it will feel like a few pounds of boost tho

The MI pulley works for me!

Installed it at between fill-ups (A).
Hooned it for the next tank (B).
Went back to my usual "no big rush" driving style (C)!

We are considering it, that's all I can say at this point in time.
