ive seen no indication from 3rd gen owners that there are any issues with premature brake wear and there are plenty on here with 100,000km (60,000 miles) and more.

don't know if that is a regional issue or simply a bunch of B.S.

I find it a bit incredulous that Toyota would be producing a car where there was a factory recommendation to change brakes every 18,000 miles.
