I don't know why, but I had a 1.3L Ford and it also had significantly more torque in the low end than the 1.5 Yaris. I drove the Ford uphill in Swiss Alps loaded with 5 adults on very steep and curvy roads, it pulled so easily.

It has to do with the rpms that the torque comes out.In the 1.3lt Yaris, it has more torque at about 2500-4500 rpms.
