Wait a minute..I GAVE AWAY a pickup truck with 175,000 on it to my brother in law and he racked it up to 375,000 before he gave it away...

Just curious as I might have missed you talking about it previously, but what are you running for your lubricants? Also as well to be sure that I am reading your list correctly you haven't replaced wheel bearings yet or did you do that as part of your CV Axle work? I applaud you for not only sticking with the Yaris, but also keeping us abreast of your success. Truly awesome!

Probably almost always true, but there are probably a few exceptions based on different combinations of climate, roads, driver skill, what they vehicle is being used for, and if garaged 'at home' or not.

I agree. Most things I'd have to pay someone else to do and trini chronicling his journey as he has lets me know that I can probably stretch to 400k (or close to it) without any drama nor much expense.

Sounds like my next door neighbor. He has a 1996 Civic with almost 300,000 miles on it and has only replaced the clutch (since we've been neighbors. His son owns an auction house and bought the Civic new. After his son put just over 100,000 miles on it (fairly quickly) he thought it 'no longer reflected his station in life' and sold it to his dad. It's been a great car for his dad ever since.

That's true, there were about 15 other Yaris over 350,000miles where I bought mine. At 445,000 literally the only things changed had been the motor(they had an on-site mechanic that traded labor for rent so it was cheaper than parts) brakes and fluids. There were 600,000 mile Echos that were still in service. In the courier industry Toyota is the go-to for a reason. These high mileages often surprise people, those of us that drive for a living are used to seeing 500,000 mile vehicles quite often. One thing that did surprise me about the Yaris however, these specific cars were company owned and driven by employees. As you can imagine people don't exactly treat their work cars like their personal vehicles...surprise surprise. Given that, I was stunned to find that a car with dozens of different drivers each with their own individual bad habits, each under pressure to be on time had managed to last just as long as the ones personally owned and cared for by my employees. There is something to be said for a car that can take on just about any driver and still be reliable after a half-million miles or more.

There is a courier that travels from VT to here in northern Maine every day with his sedan. I really need to stop him one day and talk with him a bit if he can spare the cycles.

Don't mean to be negative. If you add up all the things he did just past 400,000 miles. Those of us who are unable to fix them ourselves, would just buy a new car.
500,000 is a lot. It took me 13 years to get over 300,000 on my Camry. I drive about 100 miles a day now. |

As I will do. I just think that how he chronicled his journey clarifies that 'best to move onto new' point, which I find very helpful for those of us who don't know how to do most potential repairs.

Those stupid pay-per-review reports online don't even hit the nail on the head when they talk about it. You have to go talk to the owners of these cars in order to really get the right idea about it. Sure, It doesn't have new fancy technology all over it. Sure, It's not the most innovative car in the market. Yet, It's got a tried and true powertrain and plenty of owners to prove that! I get attached to my vehicles, last thing I want is a 100K throwaway car. Especially with the heart ache of losing my Princess after having her only 3 years. She didn't even make it to 100K miles before everything broke down on it!
