havent heard about larger cat back exhaust melting cats before...generally larger pipe leads to less heat, but i am not a engineer. and yes, on a under 500 hp small block 2.5 per side on the dual exhaust is plenty. I didnt loose any noticable HP, however, didnt gain any noticable power either.
however, my exhaust is set up for when i get a header, high flow cat, header back exhaust and a supercharger... I will keep you all updated on if i have any problems. p.s. if you arent planning on any major power adders stock pipe would be more than adequate.
