Just from a safety point of view I hope you're going to test the strength of the setup. For a 100mph car crash its been estimated that a driver experiences anything between 30-100Gs deceleration forces, forces which are concentrated on the attachment points of the harness bars.

For such a safety device it should first and foremost do what its supposed to do. Aesthetics are nice to have, but secondary.

100mph car crash and without a HANS device, the driver will lose his head.. harness bar won't even be an issue at that point..

thank god it takes a good 2 and a half minutes to get to 100mph in a yaris :D

That's quite conjectural, as an F1 driver (David Purley) back in '77 survived a 180g impact, this is way before HANS were commonplace, or even invented:

He survived an estimated 179.8 G's in 1977 when he decelerated from 173 km/h (108 mph) to 0 in a distance of 66 cm (26 inches)
