Good... an S2000 is a little much for a daily driver. Yaris... now that fits the bill. What all do you have done to that S2000? Post some pictures if you're feeling saucy... I love those cars.

this may be the wrong crowd to ask but, are the auto transmissions in the Yari adaptive or are they just straight up shift how I want to don't give a damn about your driving curve

I asked my dealer that too and he told me that they were the type that doesn't give a damn...

Not on the manual LB. It's not really needed, IMO.

No tach either. Now that would be kind of nice to have, just for fun.

This is the best mix between fuel economy and performance..so shifting a bit earlier than these speeds should net you a bit better gas mileage, but less performance... As far as keeping the car from jerking back or forward when letting out the clutch...it will take you some time to get use to the clutch and rev-matching (re-engaging clutch with the RPMs exactly where you need them for the speed you're going..though this is REALLY hard to learn without a tachometer which allows you to physically SEE the RPMs and if they jump UP or DOWN when you let out on clutch)

I can't imagine ever going into 5th at under 50 mph let alone 40-45. I usually find myself down shifting into 4th whenever my speed drops below 100 kph (62 mph). I can't stand lugging the engine. And it has no guts below 3000 rpm. I prefer to be in the powerband for safety and fun. Obviously I'm no hypermiler. I commute 100 kl per day and prefer to enjoy the drive.

My car is one of those oldschool cars with only 3 gears.

First gear, 30mph. (Or whatever the max is)
Second gear, 63~mph. (Or whatever the max is)
Fifth gear, 70~mph.

Btw, rev matching isn't hard. Don't let people fool you. People try to match revs by holding the accl. Just blip the throttle.

Okay, stupid question: does anyone else here experience throttle hang on low-rev shifts? Mine will shut right down if I wind 'er up; but shifts @2k have to be made verrrry deliberately.

Round here, if it aint a truck, it's a target.

Its actually based on how fast you release the clutch after you let go of the throttle. The less time there is between you letting off the gas, and hitting the clutch, the longer it'll hang.

Some people claim its because its Toyota's way of helping with emissions, by letting fuel burn during the rev hang.

I sorta believe its because it'll allow for smoother shifting.

In the US the automatic displays what gear the transmission is in (e.g. P, R, N, D, 2, 1) on the instrument cluster...

I remember a thread like this before the hack.

Unless your building a race car, you don't need a tach. Just listen to the engine and keep an eye on the road.

As far as shift points go, the easiest way to remember is to shift at every 10MPH (it's also what's been giving me good gas mileage). Example:

1st: 0-10
2nd: 10-20
3rd: 20-30
4th: 30-40
5th: 40+

That's it

On the automatic, the dash display shows where you put the lever. It does not show what gear the transmission is currently in.
