Most all the lights here in Socal have magnetic triggers installed into the road, sometimes you have to make a bit of motion for the light to trigger.
The are all over now. They're just simple, basic metal detectors and do not need any movement to detect a car .

All that is required is for a vehicle to be above it.
Motion over it does not help or hinder it.

My pet peeve of driving is when people blatantly cross solid white lines. like there's an intersection like where there is one exit ramp that meets a highway, and the exit ramp turns into an exit for the highway... and people speed like maniacs past the solid line and when i wait for the dotted line to begin and get over, people slam on brakes and honk and glare at me. i know it's hard to explain, which is why i drew a (crude) drawing...

I'm the red car, and the butt face is in yellow :)

People who take shallow turns onto sides streets. You know like making a 90 degree turn at 45 degrees cutting in front of and sometimes into the other lane on the street they are turning onto. Can't tell you how many times I've nearly t-boned someone who wasn't looking at the side street to see if anyone was coming out (me).

I always thought it was weight/pressure that triggered these things.

-- when 2 lanes make a left and the person in the right-left lane decides to end up in the left-left lane...... god....

-- people who are going straight, see the advance green light and go through the intersection...

-- driving at night with DRL's (hence y i think they are dangerous)

--ppl who think that blue light on their dash mean your lights are on...almost true, it means ure highbeams are on and ure a doucher!!

--driving in left lane on highway doing less then 100km/h...

--doing less then 100km/h in left lane and not moving out of my way!!

the winner of all.... break light issues..... i have seen it all from when breaks are pressed everything turns off and signals turn on to dancing breaklights.....

Speaking of exit ramps....

I hate all tail gaiters. Tail gaitters are among the most stupid and dangerous drivers out there.

However, the one that really pisses me off is when someone is getting off at the next exit and they suddeny start tailgatting
It does not matter to them if the exit is a a few feet or a few miles down the road, they will be right on your bummper until they exit even though they have plenty of roon to pass you.

What triggers the traffic lights is an induction coil buried under the pavement. It senses a large mass of metal over it, like a metal detector but a very insensitive one. If you see white lines across the road where you stop at an intersection, that means to put the front of your car right up to, but not past that white line to trigger the coil. I often see people at an intersection go across those lines before they stop, or while waiting creep up past the line so the computer controlling the light thinks they've gone on and left. The light then won't change till another car comes up behind them and gets over the coil.

Exactly, the white stop lines are there for a reason.

It's a pitty that some ignor them and then, rely on voodoo tacticts to make the light change.

This annoys me too, i really hate it though when people do the creep up to the light, but when the light actually turns green they sit there

+1 (to inifinity). I have this happen to me I don't know how many times.

Agreed. Not only do they leave that large gap, they also take forever to start moving once the car in front of them has moved.

Again, agreed.

I also hate when people swing wide to the left (often crossing the double yellow on a 2-lane road) to make a right turn; or swing wide to the right (crossing the white line) to make a left turn.

Yep, see this every morning getting off the Turnpike. Frequently it's truck drivers with their large rig that do that. Irks me to no end!!! I don't know how many times I've been almost crushed!

That would assume the coils are always placed an even distance from the lines, which is not the case. You can see where they cut the concrete to place the coils.

The hail we had destroyed both my cars (which were about to be collected by the bank ANYWAYS) so I am driving a POS Honda Accord right now which has so much hail damage, it's gas mileage is actually improved by the divits and dents it has. (it was hit by softball sized hail that blew out all the windows and more than destroyed the car, but I am still thankful for something to drive, and the windows have all been replaced). I am the guy who has NO fear of hitting his brakes when someone tail gates me for more than 10 seconds. I warn first (flash my brake lights) then I hit them good and hard and watch people learn what ABS stands for in their car, and learn that VSC is a good thing, unless the car in front of you is too close. I dare anyone to tail gate me... I've had old ladys cuss me out, kids flip me off, and everything between. And since I am BORROWING this car, I have even less feelings for stupid tailgaters. Simply put, bad idea.

What about not pulling to the sensor at the stop light?! Pisses me off when I'm behind them and the light never changes cause the douche is not pulled up far enough.

Here thay al pull up so they are IN the crosswalk. When I am walking and someone does that, I walk into the crosswalk and touch their car... it really seems to tick people off, but I am not a small guy, and I have a lot of anger issues, so even when people say something, I just walk up to the window and yell really loudly (8 years in the army, and I can be VERY loud) and then I walk away. Scares a lot of people, but they just keep on doing it.

I hate the people behind me at an intersection that lets me turn right on red. If I have a car blocking my view, you can bet that I am not going to creep up and put my car into the path of an oncoming car that I cannot see. I wait patiently until the green light. I have to get out every now and then and yell at the person honking at me. I will never creep out with my son in the car either. I tell the person that the life of me and my son is not worth the few seconds I might get somewhere faster because I can't see to the left.

I hate people who refuse to get up to speed on on ramps. Does anybody remember what merging means?

why do people wait until last moment to pull out in front of you so you then have to slow down suddenly and hope there's no numb nut following to close behind you ?

Not only do they pull out in front of you so closely, they also go slow too.

My thought, if you're gonna pull out in front of me that closely, you'd better move your ass!
