i actually did the same thing to my scion xa, i guted out all the audio components including the radio as well as the back seats, and all the trunk components.. i took alot out of the car and i feel a world of difference in acceleration and handling... next up im actually gunna take the carpet and seast out, primer and rust proof the floor and paint it, then put the carpet back in until i get the money to buy aluminum and pan all the doors and create a rear pan to make the rear flush, all that tied in with 2 buckets and a roll bar/harness bar combo with 2 rear points so it is legal at the local drag strips

dude nice! I haven't gone that far, i don't have the right tools to remove some of the bolts and stuff. And i've been too lazy to look hard. external torx stuff seems to be a pain for me too find, lol. of course i am prolly just looking in the wrong spot.

next you should add some lightness, cf is fun!

I did all that, and then removed 2 of the lug nuts each wheel, the A/C, the dash, the windows (windshield is next), the fenders and hood. Pulled the e-steering box and drained 1/2 the fluid out of the cooling system and removed the heater core. As there were no problems, I took off the 3rd lug not each wheel, and tightened the remaining one to 120ft-lbs each. I then sawed off the other three lugs, as I wasn't using then, and turned the rotors down to 1/8" each side. I also sanded the pads down to the metal backing plates, shaved the tires, drilled the rotors and took off the drums and shoes outright. I used a hole saw to randomly cut 2" diamter holes out of the frame and flooring. I told my wife needed some money for balloons for our boy's birthday, but used the moeny to fill the tires with He.

Next I'm going to sand off all the paint and torch off the undercoat/soundproofing. I think my biggest savings will be when I remove the wheels/tires and take out the engine and transmission, that will save more weight than everything else I've done. I also give my self a coffee enema 1hr prior to driving, and am thinking of gastric bypass or an AKA amputation, just the left leg to start.

And then I'm...

^ I think this was meant to be funny? Or is this expressing some opinion?

Hard to tell.

1. I don't think he's done anything to compromise the safety of the car.
2. I had to save too. For over 30 years.

did not say anything about the safety of his car, i am talking about someone who is at uni studying not working a full time job because of it and you have to live on what you make some have it harder then others, if id3379 wants to gut his yaris for fun then what ever. i like my yaris yeh its fun to drive after mucking around with springs and crap, id3379 must love the yaris to go to the extreme of gutting the car for fun, but yeah what ever mate if it were me i would get some data i.e best lap time, corner speeds agility that kind of stuff and see how the changes you made differ + or -

If you want to save weight by stripping out all of what makes a Yaris a Yaris, then why don't you just sell it and buy a cheap old Echo. You save over 300lbs right off the bat and then you can strip out all the interior for another 100lbs. Plus you'll have a heap load of cash left over.

cut excess threads off all the bolts on the car. had a buddy take off almost 30 lbs in just threads...not even including what was turned into dust.

Have you weighed the car at any point during this? I have removed all you have expect the plastic (not worth the weight to make it that ugly), but I will say that removing all the seats/carpet/seatbelts/tire/jack, and some other little stuff made an enourmous difference.

I just wanted to weigh my car, and I am not sure of a good and cheap place.

as far as making the yaris fun it can be done a stock car is a stock car, i got the most enjoyment after installing trd springs shocks strut brace and sway bar & short shift :)
Lol, mine was 11k new with everything except power windows/locks. The yaris is probably the funnest car to mod I have ever had. It all bolts on (pretty much), and the ODBII is so sensitive that it will prevent most people new to ODBII from ruining the car. I have changed the throttle body, the springs, put in a sway bar, Did a rear seat delete, also put in a CAI. The car hasn't even thrown a CEL (except first start) since I have done it. All this said, and I have probably spent a grand total of 250 bux. Name another new car you can do that with.

civic, lancer, g5/cobalt, fit, versa, corolla, and too many others to think about....o, there is one more...the smart car lol

any way, you got a lot more to go, you still got:
carpets
non-essencial glass can be changed to lexan or poly
carbon fiber or fiberglass door skins
CF hatch
headliner removed
door panels with sheetmetal or fiber
center console
lightweight seats
FG dash
radio and speakers, amp if you got it can go
excess wiring can be trimmed
wires re-routed and trimmed (instead of a switch on left and right side windows you can move to the center)
replace steel parts with aluminum
trim up control arms and knuckles...

there's tons of stuff you can still do to reduce weight. not saying any of it will be cheap or look good, but you still got a long way to go before you got no options left.
