I lived in NJ for about a year, jughandles are insane!! As far as the gas thing it drove me nuts I always felt that the dude pumping wouldn’t be careful and would spill fuel on my paint when pulling out. I was told that the law against pumping ones own gas was to create more jobs and lower unemployment in NJ but not sure if that’s accurate.

Creates jobs by necessitating gas stations to hire pump jockeys I guess.

Most stations here have workers to pump gas for you, usually also giving your windshield a quick wipe (not so often nowadays). But last week on vacation I had rented a motorbike, for when my mom needed her car, and I went to fill up at a station where the motorcycle section was self service (never seen that before!). And of course all instructions in Thai, I was able to decypher it but I wonder how all the tourists handle it.... You have to go to the counter first, and pay in advance, then go to the pump and fill up.... nonsense...

And back on topic, I have yet to see a nice, real aluminium fuel door for our cars here, only ill-fitting chrome stickers

I have contacts in the automotive industry to do powder coating and other processes, but I haven't looked into the cost yet. I'm just curious if there's anyone else that would be interested. I've seen the carbon fiber door cover on Ebay, but I don't really like it. I think it's just a cover for the door that sticks on. Let me know if anyone's interested and any ideas you may have.

Do you tip the person for pumping the gas for you?

There is a full service station down the road from me and it creeps me out. I always jump out and start the process before the guy can get to me. He will tell me that he will finish up and then starts cleaning my windshield.

Then I feel the need to tip him.

No, No, No. Never ever do that. If you tip them, you're esentially paying them for something that you're forbidden to do by law. I've been asked that by people out of state. So don't worry about wasting your money on that insanity.

I have never seen a full service station in the States, I have seen them in Canada, but with the prices of gas up there they should pump it for you.
