I changed mine at about 90,000 it was still in great shape, but I'd say if you want to throw a number out I think changing it every 100,000 miles is a good round figure. Its a $35 part not a big deal to replace then to have it brake on you, but if you want to go longer, just visually inspect it with a mirror or have a shop check it. they will usually check it for free.
