First of all, I'm not a troll :) Secondly, thanks for all of your replies! @Kongo-Otto: Yes, I am serious. Why does it seem so unlikely? I wrote this post because I think that we also need to know about negative things in order to get a more nuanced picture of the car. And I do seem to have some major issues with my Yaris. I'm really not exaggerating. I know that cars are more secure today and are more technically "complex" whereas cars were "better" in the old days because e.g. security was a non existent issue hence with a little load and speed of 80 km/h, they drove like a sailboat!

of course they are not perfect, but rusting to ruin within a year sounds like bs and the whole stuck pedal thing never happened to any Yari. Yari were not even recalled for it. The whole thing sounds highly improbable.

![]() I don't think a rusty wheel nut is some kind of "major problem". That's what i wanted to say. The brake issues are very common, especially with the rear disc brakes (i still don't know if you have discs or drums in the rear) and i told you how to get rid of it. |

Sounds like someone left his yaris sitting buried in the snow for 4 months and is surprised he has problems. Properly maintained and used brakes can't "rust solid." Now the pedal recall is just a sympathy plea.

When I look at the outside of the drums through the wheels they sure are rusty, scaling a bit and everything... but I've never seen anything but a brand new drum that didn't look like that. Apparently it's not a problem because no garage has ever suggested they need replacing. That's just the road salt doing it's work. I'd say the lugs are the same thing.

Congo-Otto: Many thanks for your advice and your polite replies. I intend to follow your advice in regard to the hand brake, however, I’m more uncertain about your second advice since I think that only an authorized garage with the right manals and tools should repair brakes. By the way, my Yaris has disc brakes :)
My Yaris was 3 years old when I bought it and it’s now 4 years. Even though my Yaris have full service at an authorized garage it still ended up in this state. I know that I've entered enthusiasts’ forum and have to take care :) However, in comparison, my 21 years old Colt didn’t have full service but only got new engine oil and oil filter each year that I had to change myself. Nevertheless it never got howling or rusty brakes... |
