I used to use the EA oil filters from Amsoil, but my vendor told me that he got a notice that Amsoil advises against using it in the Yaris because of Toyota's sludging problems. Since then, I've switched back to WIX filters.

for most cars an extended life filter would be awesome... but since you can change out the yaris filter without draining more than a cup of oil, it makes it very easy to do long oil change intervals yet still have good filters.

Multiple people on here run 10k or longer oil intervals and just swap out a new filter every 5k.

Here's the list of Toyota's engines that had the sludge problem:

Camry 4 cyl. Produced 8/96 - 7/01

Camry 6 cyl. Produced 8/96 - 8/02

Solara 4 cyl. Produced 6/98 - 5/01

Solara 6 cyl. Produced 6/98 - 8/02

Sienna 6 cyl. Produced 7/97 - 6/02

Avalon 6 cyl. Produced 7/96 - 6/02

Celica 4 cyl. Produced 8/96 - 4/99

Highlander 6 cyl. Produced 11/00 - 8/02

Yeah, I remember seeing that list in the letter that Toyota sent us (that's why I was puzzled when my vendor told me that). Still don't want to take a chance since I won't be able to afford repairing the engine just in case it does sludges over

I thought it was a fuel dilution concern with the Amsoil filter...and WIX makes the Amsoil filter, or used to, but you probably already knew that...nearly identical except for the different media.

I actually didn't know WIX makes/made Amsoil's EA filters. I knew they make Napa oil filters.

They change their supplier often...it was WX, before that I think it was Hastings...not too sure but it could be Baldwin now.
