My experience:

205/40/17: looks best

205/40/16: handles best

195/50/15: rides best

If I try hard enough, all of these combos would rub, but it was a pretty minor rub between the top of the tire and the inner fender. Of the three, the 16" combo was the shortest and rubbed the least.
