Hey, there's a post trip thought:
He could have mounted an HD camera(s) and taken video of the trip for some future commercial purpose (Toyota promotion or tourism ad or political ad). That would have paid for the trip.  Nice going bronsin!  Looking forward to hearing more about the experience such as total cost, gas mileage, upsides and downsides, etc. Welcome back
