My 89 Chevy Sprint (3 cyl 1 litre motor, 4 speed MT) use to get 45 mpg (American) if I drove it carefully on the highway.
My other car (2006 smart 3 cyl 0.8 litre diesel, 6 speed MT) gets into the low 60s MPG (American) on the highway My understanding is automotive manufactures have had to add 400-600 pounds of weight (since my Chevy Sprint was made) to their cars to make them more crash worthy. This weight plus bigger engine in the Yaris has reduced MPG. Roy |
