I'm not going to make any other changes while working on this manifold. They would only complicate the process which I want to be as simple and direct as possible.

It's really easy to get in way over your head by making multiple changes at the same time, so I'm going to completely avoid that situation simply by not doing it.

How are you doing on yours? I hope that sharing the details of the process will help to move your manifold along.
Mine is pretty much shelved until I'm ready to do engine management--I'm not interested in fighting the ECU--but that will allow me to do cable throttle and a custom intake/exhaust setup. Then again, if your project works out as a net gain, I may just press on ahead with it.

Changing one thing at a time is a great strategy. There have been many times I wish I followed it, both on my cars and in my life.

That is an OK strategy for "almost stock" type builds.

If you go "full race" type build you gotta jump in with both feet.

I also guessed and used a simple hand file to fit. On the bottom and the right, there are no perimeter issues. At the top just left of dead center, and the right side near the flange mounting stud are the two areas.

Cable control is a completely different road which I'm not willing to travel. However, I'm happy to be the first manifold "lab rat", and will let you in on all the details.

But after you do that build, it's still better to change one thing at a time, when possible, or you'll never know what change made the difference, either way.

No welder yet...
Today I go to the shop after work to return the flange that was hand filed to fit to the engine, so they can input the corrected dimension data and CNC another flange...

...then I go to the welder.

so they are going to mill you out another flange? are you paying for every time you use them or is it one fee? you could just used the filed one.

sorry, being impatient. I like this little project. regrardless of the gains, it is going to look mighty mean on the front of that engine.

Here's the throttle body adapter...

The camera flash made the intake runners show up inside the manifold. I think this manifold has a distinct design advantage in that all 4 of intake ports of the runners are in direct line with the axis of the throttle body bore, like a backwards flowing exhaust header.

It turned out beautifully...

...and was quite a challenge for them to design a smooth transition from the 3 bolt manifold to the 4 stud throttle body without any of the 4 studs conflicting with the 3 hex bolts, while keeping the attitude of the rotationally sensitive gasket consistent with the throttle body's butterfly.

That is a PRETTY piece of work. I would make an extra one to have on my desk.

Can I sleep with it before you install it?

Thanks, Garm... but I can't take any credit for it as I know absolutely nothing about the manufacturing process. I only laid out the basic idea and let the guys decide how to implement a design in the best manner they saw fit.
