Personally, I just keep keep my engine bay wiped down everytime I wash my car, the reason is because when I worked as a grease monkey for a Ford dealership, I worked in a bay next to the detail guys. they used degreaser, then washed it off.
A fair portion of the cars they detailed(maybe 1 in 10) got sent through our shop later with electrical issues or misfires, ussually due from coils shorting out from excess water. Just be very carefull when hosing your engine bay down.
