That is really how you program a new key or you just messing with us, lol? The dealer charges $175 to program a key, I thought it was done with a programmer or something.

That's how you program the remote. Programming a transponder key (the chip in the key kind) requires the Toyota TechStream system to program.

I see, thank you for the info. I totally forgot about the chip. Does my 2007 Sedan have a chip in the key?

How about the key itself, can a locksmith cut the key or does Toyota have to do that too?

Your 07 does not have the transponder key (you can tell by looking at the ignition switch - Ones without it have a totally metal ignition switch, and ones with it have the inner part that turns metal and the outer part plastic).

Cutting the key can be done by a locksmith without a problem.

Ok, I tried to program my new key today using the above procedure and it's not working. I get to step 9 and the locks cycle once to indicate "add" mode. But after I hold both lock and unlock, then lock. Nothing happens after that. The instructions say that the locks should cycle once if it worked and twice if there is a problem. It does neither for me.

Also, can some one tell me what the different modes are for. Obviously "ADD" means to add a remote? What does "CONFIRMATION", "PROHIBITION", and "REWRITE" modes do?

Thanks!

• Add Mode is used to register new recognition codes
while retaining the previously registered codes. This
mode is used when new transmitters are added. If the
number of registered codes exceeds 4, the previously
registered codes will be erased in order, starting from
the first registered code.
• Rewrite Mode is used to erase all the previously
registered recognition codes in order to register new
recognition codes. This mode is used when the
transmitter or the door control receiver is replaced
with a new one.
• Confirmation Mode is used to confirm how many
recognition codes have already been registered
before any additional recognition codes are
registered.
• Prohibition Mode is used to erase all the registered
codes and disable the wireless door lock function.
This mode is used when the transmitters are lost

Thanks CTScott, that helps a lot!

So I am thinking I got the wrong key fob for my Yaris since I cant get it to program at all. Does anyone know what the correct part number would be for a FOB with electronics for a 2007 Sedan?
