For a 9 year old car, still runs perfectly and never had any serious problems with it up to now, only done basic preventative maintenance and upkeep. I've had such a great experience with it that I'd be reluctant to sell it for anything, planning on keeping it as a reliable daily driver... I'll take my old, basic Yaris, without stability, traction control and ABS...
The lack of coziness and other options is more about the fact you're driving a base model. I'm on my 2nd RS now, and love the extra goodies. What's really best about these cars, and what they all have in common, is the great, fun driving experience and bullet-proof reliability.

Even as a base model, I have to say that I'm very pleased with it, comforts like A/C would be fantastic but I still love it! Don't see many RS trims around where I live, seen a few around my city, would love to get my hands on one sometime! Spot on with the driving experience and reliability, know folks with Echo/Yaris' around pushing 500000-600000KM and still going strong, I can say without a shred of doubt that I'd happily buy another!

I do pay attention to CR's subjective opinions (as I do for the opinions of Car and Driver, Motor Trend, online reviewers, etc.) but CR's real value is in their objective data, i.e. reliability statistics and owner satisfaction surveys. The Yaris does better when judged solely on this criteria.

In the current April Auto Issue of CR EVERY Toyota and Lexus vehicle had excellent or very good reliability ratings. (The Yaris had an excellent rating.) As for owner satisfaction there were no negative ratings. (The Yaris had a neutral rating, which was the lowest of any Toyota product.)

They also have test results such as acceleration, braking, accident avoidance maneuvers. These results are in line with their recommended subcompacts (Fit, Versa Note).

So it seems a large part of their final rating is attributable to subjective criteria. You know what they say about opinions...everybody has one.
New to here, just got my brand new UK Yaris Icon 1.33 CVT. It is a bit sad that this gen3 facelift Yaris gets some negative reviews all around the world (yes, UK as well). What did they complain about? Same chassis? No stark updates? Yes, it is not an exciting hot hatch, but what I am looking for is reliability, economy and comfort, otherwise I would have got something like a Fiesta ST or a Polo GTi, wouldn't I?

The choice was obvious for me here, 5yrs warranty, cheap insurance, cheap servicing, one of the closest dealers to my home other than Peugeot etc etc. A lot of the car reviews these days are becoming very peripheral, they want the car to have a sporty handling, power engines, and yet, >50mpg efficiency, comfy and quiet ride with extra leg room at the back, with a 10inch ipad stuck on the dash which controls everything? What a joke!

Anyway, I am still enjoying my new car.

I have to agree with you on the Vita-mix. Great machine. I bought mine via the Certified Reconditioned program. I bought the Professional Series 500 model and the thing looks brand new and functions as such. From what I understand, the Reconditioned program resells Vita-mix blenders that have been returned within the risk free in-home 30 day trial, or blenders that have been used via demonstrations at Costco, or what not. They cannot resell these blenders as new. So, I saved a couple hundred dollars by going with the Reconditioned program for a blender that is essentially new with a 5 year warranty. The fact that CR would rank the Ninja alongside a Vita-mix blender tells me all I need to know about CR. I've used Ninja, Blendtec, and Vita-mix. Vita-mix blenders are hands down the best blenders I've used.

I'll test drive them and make my own decision, like the grown adult I am. They have really down the toilet lately. Every since they rated our LG washer as top rated and that thing has been the biggest POS. And I wanted a Whirlpool, but peace was more important so I gave in. And then they ranked the Ninja blender as high as the $500 Vita-mix which I do own. The Vita-mix will last 30 yrs versus a couple of years with the Ninja. And I love my 15 Yaris SE manual. I like it better than the two Fits I had, one which wasn't the great of quality like most new Hondas. And they praise and go gaga ape shiite over the Honda Fit. I don't see it.

Consumer Reports product reviews have always been based on what the market wants or expects at a given point in time. If a reviewed product has the features the public wants at a price point which gives the perception of value for the money, then it is highly rated. After all, the bulk of the consuming public makes decisions based on a combination of heart and wallet.

The only valid CR publications imo are the reliability reports. This is were the rubber hits the road with hard data, not the subjectivity of a handful of testers and analysts.

(waits for the next CR thread to start up so can read all the same old, same old on here again...)
