Tooter, I would recommend buying or borrowing a Scanguage before the dyno so you can monitor peak MAF readings as well as fuel trims (both long term and short term).

^ that's probably the best way to determine flow with either manifold on.

There won't be any turbulence issues with such a smooth oversized parabolic profiled entrance. Half of the Weapon R intake curve is actually inside the 90 degree fitting to smooth the transition, and the relationship of the throttle body to the MAF sensor remains unaltered.
![]() That's the main reason I like the BLOX velocity stack/filter so much. None of the other intakes are quite like it. Last edited by tooter; 08-20-2012 at 09:22 PM. |

^ That air is passing through a sharp 90 degree bend RIGHT before the MAF. Your smooth air argument is a little weak because of that.

![]() ...as this is only an experiment to see what happens when I continue to follow my genuine interest while trusting my own common sense in exactly the same way it got me started in this venture. So it's totally understandable that this isn't necessarily going to make any sense going "outside the box" of conventional methods... ...but the real fun is finding out what happens when I do. ![]() This is why I'm interested in flow dynamics... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sgx4G4uli_w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE34Ho2jzrM Last edited by tooter; 08-21-2012 at 01:23 AM. |

If you have a copy of solidworks I suggest you play around with the flow simulation tools. Here is a video of it, its a cool tool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3ecq...eature=related |

Yeah, its a tad sad that the stock air box cannot be reused exactly to make it as close as possible to a plug and play kit. That also made the air intake a custom kit.
I suggest you bundle the entire kit as the final product =) |

![]() It might be nice to at least offer that option. Malibuguy had expressed some interest in fabricating a matching intake. If he decides he doesn't want to, I'll see if I can come up with something a little easier than fitting that big BLOX air filter into such a small space. |

1. Jeff provides helpful references, including information about turbulence.
2. You "argue" (what other word would you use?) that there won't be any turbulence issues. 3. I point out the 90-degree bend right before the MAF as a cause for turbulence. (Which I have some experience with). You're right, it's not an argument -- it's a difference of opinion.

![]() With little education, I rely instead on my common sense to teach me what I need to know by actual experience, and learn as I go. I was told that I couldn't build a home on the land I bought, so I built a home on it without a mortgage. I was told that it was impossible to get a job, so I started a business at the worst possible time, right in the middle of a bad recession over 30 years ago, and have made a decent living for decades and continue to prosper even in the midst of this recession. I was told that the Corolla manifold would not be driveable on the Yaris at low rpms because it was too large, so I found out for myself that the engine starts right up, idles like butter, drives great at low rpms, averages 38 mpg, and has never triggered a CEL light. People mean well when they say you can't do this, or you can't do that, because in their own experience they couldn't do it themselves. But I have found that not everyone's experiences are the same. That's why I'm a find out for myself kind of guy... ...because the fun is in finding out.

^ Of course. It's an experiment, we're all clear about this. Not knowing what affect turbulence might have is one thing, and it's the truth -- none of of us know for sure, including me.
But stating as a fact before it's known that there won't be a problem will elicit a comment from me -- every time. Just as I'd hope you would do if I were to make such a claim. Quote:
