interesting tread.... weird thing is today my coworker was throwing some car parts away.. one of it is 1zz celica intake manifold.. and i was looking at it.. and in my head.. look like it can fit the yaris... i told him hold on to it so i can do more research on it.. so I'm guessing it is possible..

If it's an old 2000 Celica 1.8 aluminium intake manifold like this...

...a tooter adaptor flange would make it bolt on to a Yaris engine, although I don't know about the clearance or throttle body fitment issues. Can you post a pic of the manifold if it's aluminium? There's not much you could do if it's a plastic one.

It won't fit. Its the same as the aluminum one, but plastic.

Wouldn't it be easier to take a honda fit HPD intake manifold and modify it to fit a yaris?
Both engines have about the same airflow requirements with the fit having more aggressive cams and a slightly higher rev limit.

I think the HPD manifold would experience some hood clearance issues as most of it is on top of the engine...

The engines are pretty similar in displacement and horsepower. Honda's being a 109HP 1.5L.

Yeah, I had looked at some old specs for an earlier year.

For 2012, they're:

117 hp @ 6,600 rpm; 106 ft lb of torque @ 4,800 rpm

But that extra power comes at the cost of some gas mileage at an EPA rated 27 city, 35 highway... as compared to the 2012 Yaris at 33 city 38 highway.

Thanks for the info, malibu.

I just did a search for "2000 Celica 1.8 engine" and that pic came up, and didn't realize that there were two 1.8 engines. It's pretty obvious that it would favor top end performance as the runners are super short...

Getting manifolds sandblasted amounts to a good piece of change, so instead of paying someone else to blast them, I'm going to do them myself...

The air compressor is suprizingly quiet because the motor turns at half speed 1,720 rpm. It's being broken in right now. The directions require running for a minimum of 20 minutes under no load to get the bearings all lubricated and to seat the rings.

Glass beading sounds especially nice because it gives aluminium surfaces a nice smooth silky luster. I'm still hunting for a local source for glass bead blasting medium. Closest so far is in Moorpark.

Yeah, I've been reading up on all of the options. Glass bead blasting really sounds the most intriguing because the tiny round glass balls micro "shot peen" the surface and relieve the forming stresses. I also really like the "closed pore" surface glass beading produces that's resistant to dirt and greasy fingerprints.

Picked up a blasting cabinet from Harbor Freight today...

They had this one on display, but were selling another model that wasn't half as nice, so I prevailed upon the manager to sell me the older floor model at the sale price ($209). This one is superior because the cabinet and lower catch bin are not only larger, they're all a one piece welded unit, whereas the newer one was a bunch of bolted together sections which are highly likely to leak blasting medium. This one also has a separate glassed off compartment on the top for the flourescent lights while the newer one didn't.

There are pickup tubes welded into the bottom bin to which you attach the blasting medium hose so that when you're blasting, the medium falls to the bottom of the tapered bin and is then picked up again. This allows automatic recirculation of the medium without any loss.

Damnit, wish i have space and can get hold on these kind of tools here.

I could think of a 1001 things to do with that...

which of all things include my rusting gym rack bolts and cast iron weights

As for blasting medium, I'm going with stainless steel balls as they make no dust and don't eventually fracture like glass beads do with repeated use. That will insure a consistently silky smooth lustrous shot peened surface.
