I have a lifted 08 Base model yaris with about 114K miles and was recently experiencing a pop sound. I initially found the same as mentioned above the strut tower upper mount was loose and figured that must be the source. Nope. Turned out the strut rods which were brand new CHY-NA cheaply stuff was the cause. Put some new Moog ones on there and no more pops. Just sharing the info...
