Open hoods on rainy weather???? - Toyota Yaris Forums

Does any one have an open hood like the Seibon on a place other than SOCAL?

I'm just concerned about the effect of much water going into the engine bay and would like to hear other people experiences.

I've had this same hood sitting on my garage for months and now I'm finally thinking about installing it.

But it gets really rainy down here!

I thought I can always do some kind of removable cap to install over the mesh.

Opinions, suggestions?

I kind of like the idea of the reverse cowl on this hood.... I believe it would extract a lot of heat from the front of the engine.
My engine bay really gets hot... some times after a spirited drive I can not even touch the pipe from my Fujita CAI.... that pipe as well as the plastic intake manifold can get really hot....

well im not sure about our cars, but lots of cars come with them stock... so id figure its not a problem

I have the other style siebon vented hood and installed was november and had no problems with the rain/water in the engine bay other than lots of water spots lol

I would think it would depend on your air intake. If it's in a box, then it shouldn't get wet - otherwise you'd want to put in some kind of baffle to make sure it doesn't get wet.

water do get in the engine bay, regardless the hood open or not.

I don't think rain can hurt the engine. Some hose down the engine to keep it clean. I would think that hosing the engine is worst.

Thanks for the comments...

Yes I know that water will always find it's way into the engine bay, however this is kind of different... we are talking about large amounts (it's a big hole as you can see) of water flowing on top of the engine bay... not from under the car.

I agree the water won't heart the engine... is mostly the electrical stuff that i'm concerned. The head lights wiring and the MAF sensor wiring... stuff like that.

And yeah I have a CAI, I will have to figure a way to stop the water flowing down the pipe until the filter below the headlight. Something like a plastic collar...

I guess I will take my time to review all the most exposed wiring and make sure is well insulated to prevent any problems...

while in motion, no more water than a normal hood should get in the engine bay.

The open hood on my Lancer Evo was never an issue. Then again that car was designed to have an open hood...

I've been running with an open reverse cowl hood for roughly 6 months now without any problems *knocks wood*. It's been through many a rain storm, snow, ice you name it.

I power wash the engine bay from time to time also (I just make sure I wrap palastic around my TRD CAI).

I've even driven it during a bad rain/torrential rain storm for over three hours with rain coming through the front grill and pouring into the top reverse cowl hood with no ill effects. I was shitting bricks that night cause my hood did not come with rain guards. So for me so far so good
