C150 Vs C54
I am thinking of replacing my C160 6spd transmission so I am thinking of using my stock gearbox which is a C150 or else the C54.
From research I think that the C150 is owned on yaris models between 2000-2005 while C54 is on 2006-2009 models. The only drawback is that I will loose the much needed LSD of the C160 so I asked if the C160 LSD can be used on the C150 to "Bluevitz-rs" and he said that the diff do not match the c150 since it is 6bolt instead of 8. Although he said that a C54 diff match the C160. I am really confused what to decide since the gear ratios of the C150 are better than the C54. - If I choose to stay C150 I get better gears and I need to buy an LSD (which is expensive) for it - If I choose to use C54 I get a slight loss of gears ratio but then I can use the C160 LSD Also I do not know if the C54 and C150 dimensions are the same since I don't want any issues putting it or else not matching drive shafts. Please help C150 vs C54 Compared -> http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears...raph&Compare=1 Not sure if the C54 final drive is 3.545 please confirm Last edited by Parmas; 04-28-2010 at 10:27 AM. |

No no, I'm positive the C54 has a 6 bolt diff just like the C150. It was the C56 I was suggesting you use.

I'm pulling apart a C56 at home at the moment to see if I can use that gearset and diff in my C150 casings. You just want to go the opposite. Or grab a C52 (3.6 final drive) and see if that will swap in.

I don't think you'll have any problems with putting in the C56 gears into the C150 case.

I'm yet to take some more measurements, but I think the C56 centre casing is longer than the C150. The end casing are completely swappable with the cast end case from the C56 actually being smaller than the pressing steel end case on the C150.
Pulled my lsd apart only to find out that something like a piece of metal has gone through it and put gouges in 2 plates and scored the cross pin . Dunno whether to try and replace them (which probably means buying another bloody lsd) or just polish them up and see how it goes. |

I'm sorry for the this mate but why you wanted the C56 gears?
In my case for drag racing the C150 is better than the C56 because of higher mph across all gears. Here is a comparism: http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears...raph&Compare=1 Left C150 vs Right C56 |

I want a closer ratio gear set and shorter final drive because my drag strip can be up to 40 kms long and usually has lots of hills and corners.

Can you tell us why you chose a C56 trans and not a C160 to swap into a C150? Bluevitz-rs made a good thread that explains it all that it can be done. http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26728 The C160 transmission is a closer ratio than the C56. The purpose of this thread was in order to know if the C160 LSD fits the C150 that's all |

Hmm, but on dirt. We call it a rally.

But after seeing how much smaller the gears and diff are in the C150, I'd be scared at running too much power or abuse through it. |

The C160 transmission is longer because of the extra 6th gear, well you could use 5 gears instead of 6? Quote:

That depends the cost of redrilling! If so it would be more worth buying an upgraded LSD |

I take it by these questions that you never had either of these transmissions apart. Sure you can use only 5 gears, but then what do you do with the rest of the input and output shafts? It won't make the transmission any shorter. All of that was covered in my conversion thread.

An lsd from a C56 will fit a C160 as they are both 8 bolt crown wheels.
