Anyone know how much installed a remote controlled starter would be?

I'm in no rush to do it, but I'm just curious how much a remote starter installation would cost? With Winter only being a few weeks away here in New Jersey, it's something to consider. My girlfriend's Dad has a remote starter on his pickup truck and loves it.

Don't know the answer to that question. Where I live there is a "puffer" law. You can't let a car idle unattended.

The Yaris is the easiest car I have ever installed one on, and I've self installed them on everything that I've owned over the past 15 or so years. For about $100 you can get a good remote starter and the transponder key bypass module (necessary for all 2009+ Yaris, and any from prior years that have the engine immobilizer). I don't know what places charge to install them, but the labor to install it should be less than many other cars, as all connections that need to be made are done at the key switch or just below it, and it is incredibly easy to gain access to those areas on the Yaris.

Here's a guide that I put together on wiring one:

I checked at BEST BUY $$

I checked at best buy it was a Viper auto start, the unit was 199.00
Includes basic install?? But for the bypass and wiring it they soak you an extra 150 bucks!!

Been doing this for about three years now at a car audio shop, and for the yaris without the immobilizer it would be $199 installed with lifetime warranty. With the immobilizer it would be $279 installed. No hidden fees or any other B/S,,, just the tax :( I typically deal with Viper or AstroStart (another brand of Directed Electronics)

It typically depends on the model as to the range. I installed an UltraStart 1280XR, and the range is far better than any of the DEI remote starters I used on past vehicles. I can start my Yaris from deep inside Home Depot with it.

The "Engine Immobilizer" is an OEM theft protection system that consists of a key that contains an RFID transponder and a device to read that transponder (which is part of the ignition switch assembly on so equipped Yaris). The ECM has the transponder keys' IDs registered and will only allow the engine to start upon reading those IDs. If you try to bypass the ignition switch to start the car, the starter will crank, but the engine will not start.

If your Yaris' ignition switch is all metal (inner and outer circles) then you don't have the immobilizer. If the inner circle is metal and the outer is black plastic, then you do.

NJ has a similar law, but nobody actually follows it.
