How I stumbled onto cheap sound deadening...

I recently tried to deaden some of the road noise in my LB with a few cans of the "professional grade" sound deadening spray they sell at the local parts stores/Walmart/etc and was less than satisfied with the results...which I anticipated, but I didn't want to spend more than a few bucks on this project. Fast forward to last night, about two weeks later....

I had just finished the A/C low pressure line insulation mod and needed to do a little work to the rear 6.5's. I had the idea to use the remainder of the roll of aluminum tape and apply it over the top of the spray on rubber coating...essentially creating a thin version of dynamat, and it works very well!

I don't know if this method has already been Posted(I couldn't find it anywhere), but it's very cheap, and easy to accomplish. I used one $15.00 roll of aluminum tape to do the A/C and both rear quarter panels. The rubber spray was about six dollars a can and I used two per panel.

I'm going to buy one more roll and apply it over the rest of the hatch since it's coated in the rubber spray from a couple of weeks ago. We'll see how it works everywhere else. I'll grab the DSLR this time...and show my shotty work in great detail.

This is the spray I used:

** You'll need the extreme environment version of the tape as a base layer. It's very thin and conforms perfectly to the various contours. On top of that it's fair game, I've tried all the levels of thickness try had for sale.

WEAR GLOVES! This tape will slice you like a razor blade when you run your fingers across it...three bandages later I put my gloves on. :(
