Painted Headlights

I haven't worked on my Yaris or been on here for quite a long time. I'm finally back to a place where I can work on my car. This weekends project was painting the unnecessary shiny bits in the headlight housings.
Before and after pics.

I think there has to be more "black" in your colour scheme to match those painted headlights.

I like it. Get your windows tinted to match. But I think painted headlights always look good. Adds finer lines to the front end. Looks nice tho again. Cheers. Want to do mine?

Its not that hard to do. I did one light on Saturday and the other on Sunday. It took me about 3.5 hours per light.

I used the HID Install thread to disassemble the light. Yaris LB HID Installation

Two differences, I didn't completely remove the front bumper, I left the bottom bots/fasteners in place and lightly pulled it out of the way to remove the light. I didn't bake/heat the light housings, I was able to work the lights apart and cut the sealant as I went.

FYI if you end up doing this:
The chrome finish on the housings is really easy to scratch. Wiping it with anything other than a really soft cloth will dull the finish and leave scratches. The masking tape didn't leave any blemishes but I was careful to place it and not move it when it was partially stuck down.

Finger prints are a pain to get off of the housing, don't touch any part that you aren't planning on painting and wear clean latex gloves while disassembling, masking and reassembling the light.

High Temp Silicone. I used it sparingly around the joint between the lens and the lower housing after I reassembled them. I wanted to be able to separate the parts easily if I decide later to add some LED's or do something else to dress them up little. If I end up with a little condensation in them, I'll pull them and reseal them.

I painted mine also - and I took out the amber inserts .... with the amber being out of there, it really made a *huge* difference and made it look a *ton* better, IMO. Nice job though :)

Looks so good. This mod has been around for at least a decade. Never ceases to amaze me how much a difference it makes. Cheers

I had projectors, and they didn't work - and with the lack of aftermarket options available; I said "screw it" and just painted them. The car wasn't but a month old when I did it, and it was still wasn't set fully so I just pulled them apart with my hands and a pry tool; very little effort was involved in it. And just taping them off and I sprayed mine with black chrome which I think added a little bit of depth to it (I'm a nerd) and made it a bit different from the norm.

I love how they turned out, and now I will never replace them because I love them so much :)
